Groton access is different from the suburbs closer to Boston
Groton has a mix of housing. Old colonials on large lots near the town center, newer developments off Route 119 and Route 40, and farm properties spread across the back roads. The driveways tend to be longer than what you see in Billerica or Burlington, and some of the roads are narrow with no sidewalks. That has never stopped us, but it is worth mentioning when you text the photos.
If your property is off one of the longer private roads, the kind that turn from pavement to gravel halfway up the hill, let us know. The trailer handles it fine. We just like to know before we arrive. Same with barn or outbuilding access. If the stuff is in a barn fifty yards from the house, we will plan for the walk.
Groton does have a transfer station on Farmers Row that accepts bulky waste. You need a permit, orange town bags, and you have to haul it yourself. For most people, paying us $90 to $250 to handle it is cheaper than renting a truck, buying the bags, and making the run yourself.
Three other companies looked at it and said no
We had a job where a customer had a hot tub stuck in a backyard with tight access and a slope leading down to it. Three other companies had come out, looked at the situation, and declined. We said no problem. The crew had it out and gone in 90 minutes.
That is the kind of job we like. The ones where someone has already been told it cannot be done. Groton properties have character, and character sometimes means a narrow path between the house and the stone wall, or a barn door that is six inches too narrow for a standard dolly. We plan for it. When you should not hire us
If you have a truck, a strong back, and a Saturday morning free, a single dump run will cost you less than our $90 minimum. The Groton transfer station on Farmers Row accepts bulky waste with a permit. If it is one truckload of regular junk, that route might be cheaper.
We will tell you that if your job is small enough to handle yourself. We would rather lose the job than charge you for something you could do for less. Rule of thumb: if it fits in a pickup truck and you have the vehicle, the dump run wins on price.
Hazardous waste is another reason not to call us. Wet paint, asbestos, chemicals, medical waste, propane tanks. We cannot take those. They need a specialist. If you are not sure whether your stuff counts, text us the photos and we will tell you.
Hourly haulers are paid to be slow
Most junk removal companies charge by the hour. A slow crew with a meter running is their whole business model. We charge by volume. How much space your stuff takes in the trailer. Whether the crew finishes in one hour or three, the price is the same.
A truck load of junk is $250 whether it takes our crew 45 minutes or two hours. A full trailer is $650 whether the basement was organized or buried under twenty years of boxes. You know the number before we start, and a slow afternoon costs us, not you.
We are not the cheapest option in Groton. If you have a truck and a free Saturday, the dump run is cheaper. Where your stuff goes after we leave
Hauling it does not mean dumping it. Usable items get donated locally. Goodwill, Savers, Habitat ReStore in the Billerica and Lowell area. Metal and electronics go to licensed recyclers. Only true waste heads to the transfer station.
If there are items in good condition, we will ask if you want them donated. We do not charge extra for donation runs. Some people want everything gone. Others want us to set aside a few things. Both are fine.
