Acton has its own quirks
Acton is an affluent suburb with a mix of housing — older colonials and capes near the center, split-levels from the 70s and 80s along the Route 2 corridor, and newer construction out toward I-495. The older homes tend to have tight basements with narrow bulkheads. The Acton transfer station on Quarry Road accepts bulky items for a fee. You need a sticker and you need to transport the stuff yourself. For most people, paying us $90 to $150 to handle it is cheaper than borrowing a truck, getting the sticker, and making the dump run yourself.
Acton does not offer free curbside bulky-item pickup for most residents. If you have something large that cannot go in the regular trash, your options are the transfer station or hiring a crew. We are the crew that sends the price before we show up.
A Saturday morning, gone by Tuesday
A customer in Billerica texted us photos of her basement on a Saturday morning. She had a flat quote back within the hour, and the whole thing was gone by Tuesday. That is the normal pace. Photos take two minutes. We send a number. You pick a day. The crew shows up and handles it.
Acton jobs work the same way. Text us photos on a Monday afternoon, you will have a price by Tuesday morning, and the stuff can be out of your house by Wednesday.
When you should not hire us
If you have a truck, a strong back, and a Saturday morning free, a single dump run will cost you less than our $90 minimum. The Acton transfer station on Quarry Road charges a fee per load. If it is one truckload of regular junk, that route might be cheaper.
We will tell you that if your job is small enough to handle yourself. We would rather lose the job than charge you for something you could do for less. Rule of thumb: if it fits in a pickup truck and you have the vehicle, the dump run wins on price.
Hazardous waste is another reason not to call us. Wet paint, asbestos, chemicals, medical waste, propane tanks — we cannot take those. They need a specialist. If you are not sure whether your stuff counts, text us the photos and we will tell you.
Hourly haulers are paid to be slow
Most junk removal companies charge by the hour. A slow crew with a meter running is their whole business model. We charge by volume — how much space your stuff takes in the trailer. Whether the crew finishes in one hour or three, the price is the same.
A truck load of junk is $250 whether it takes our crew 45 minutes or two hours. A full trailer is $650 whether the basement was organized or buried under ten years of boxes. You know the number before we start, and a slow afternoon costs us, not you.
We are not the cheapest option in Acton. If you have a truck and a free Saturday, the dump run is cheaper. Where your stuff goes after we leave
Hauling it does not mean dumping it. Usable items get donated locally — Goodwill, Savers, Habitat ReStore in the Billerica and Acton area. Metal and electronics go to licensed recyclers. Only true waste heads to the transfer station.
If there are items in good condition, we will ask if you want them donated. We do not charge extra for donation runs. Some people want everything gone. Others want us to set aside a few things. Both are fine.
